Oil and Water

Lara Ann Dominick

Oil and Water is a vampire love story that is really quite different to other vampire stories that I have previously read. The story begins with the reader meeting two very different characters. Elsie, a human, who is book obsessed (yes I really identify with that) and dreaming of a future that she really doesn’t think exists. One where she will experience the incredible, epic passion of love that is portrayed in her books. And Opal, a vampire, who has no memories of her life before she was reborn as a monster of the night. She is thrust, unwillingly, into a position of authority and lives her life in a state of emotionless superiority.

We journey through the book guided by the perspectives of these two incredibly strong characters as they meet Cy, a handsome man who throws both their lives into turmoil. Cy is kind and gentle, loving and fiercely loyal. However, he places both Elsie; her friends and family, and Opal and her position in the underworld in danger. Amber, another vampire and Opal’s only friend, is on the hunt. Is she hunting Opal, Elsie or Cy? Lara weaves such a compelling and intricate tale that you are completely sucked in and drawn into the lives of all the characters as the story progresses. Elsie and Opal must work together to keep the people they care about safe, not an easy feat for a human and a vampire. I was kept completely on my toes and on the edge of my seat right to the end of this beautifully written fantasy novel.

I won’t give away any spoilers as that’s really not fair but what I will say is that if you love unconventional vampire stories and you want a romance that will keep you guessing then this is definitely the book for you. I loved it and will eagerly await the sequel that Lara is currently working on.

You can get Oil and Water through Amazon as an ebook and paperback and Lara has a website http://oilandwaterbook.com/ where you can find out more about the author herself, her book, other retailers and also read her book reviews of other indie authors.
