Cleaning The Slate is Andrea Warrilow’s debut novel. It is the first in a series of books in the ‘At The Cliff Top’ series. A sweet romance set in the English Countryside with a backdrop of horses.
We meet the main character, Carrie as her life is thrown into turmoil with the loss of her husband in a tragic accident. As Carrie struggles to come to grips with her grief she starts a new job at a Livery Stables and very slowly starts to rebuild her life, although she is unable to get over the sudden passing of her husband. Only after a chance encounter with Caleb, a work colleague of an old friend of Carrie’s, is she able to start to change her outlook on her future.
This was a sweet and charming story. A very easy read, with a good pace and flow to it. It reminded me somewhat of the Mills & Boon or Harlequin books that I enjoyed as a teenager. With this story the characters are likeable and the storyline is easy to follow.
The inclusion of horses in the book is a nice touch, it brings a little bit more depth to the narrative. I felt there were times when I wanted more depth and description, however, for the style of writing this was a light and enjoyable read.
If you enjoy reading a light and easy romance where the characters are honest and trustworthy, where there is no conflict but where the reader follows the interactions of the main characters as they navigate their feelings for each other, then you’ll enjoy this book.
Cleaning The Slate is available through Amazon. There is a second book to the series already published and I know that the author is currently working towards publishing the third. If you enjoy stories that feature animals then you will enjoy this series.
