Confidential Moments by Laura John is the fifth book in her Love in Sienna series. It is a contemporary m/m sports romance and the first one of Laura John’s that I’ve read. It is also the first time that I’ve reviewed a book for a blog tour. I’d like to thank Laura for asking me to jump on board and Brittany Franks of The Hatters Author Services for the ARC and information about the book.
Xavier is a baseball player who wants to sign with the Sienna Grey Wolves, he’s openly bi-sexual and proud of it. Mason is an upcoming lawyer who is vying for a partnership spot with his firm. He has suppressed his sexuality all his life thinking that to be openly gay meant he wouldn’t have the career he wanted.
Sparks fly as soon as these two viril men meet. However, the road to love and happy ever after is a difficult one when faced with accepting one’s own sexuality, homophobia and when Xavier’s world is turned upside down he doesn’t know if Mason will still be there.
With Xavier and Mason’s story I thought the author tackled the theme of sexual identity and the struggles that unfortunately are still faced by the LGBTQ community around the world, very well. Mason has hidden who he truly is for so long that he struggles with the concept of coming out, especially to his friends and family. For me this was the most heartfelt part of the book and I appreciated the author’s sensitivity.
I found the romance between Xavier and Mason to be sweet and was rooting for them to overcome their difficulties. The main storyline and supporting characters kept me reading however, I did struggle with how the timeline was used to move the story forward throughout the book. I would have liked to have seen the timeline written within the story as the references to it, for me, were somewhat jarring.
Having said this I enjoyed the story and would recommend Confidential Moments to die hard romance fans who enjoy any type of gender coupling.
Although Confidential Moments is part of a romance series, I found I was able to read it easily as a stand-alone. The references made to other couples allows the reader to either reconnect with previous books or know that more stories are available.
You can as always find the video version of my review over on YouTube and soon a copy will also be available on Instagram.
Thanks for popping by.
